American Athletic, Inc. (AAI) is proud to announce that in September 2016, we received FIG approval (and certification) for the Graphite “E” Rail to be used during competition on our Elite Uneven Bar System (407-109).   The Graphite E Rail is made with less graphite strands than our Graphite X Rail, allowing the gymnast a “softer” feel. The Graphite E Rail has been in use at the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic level for approximately 5 years, and now is approved for use during all competition.

How do you tell the difference between the E-Rail and X-Rail when looking at them?

The easiest way to tell the difference between the E-Rail and X-Rail, without actually swinging on them, is to look at the collars.  The E-Rail has blue collars, while the X-Rail has silver collars as seen in the pictures below:

The Frame Bar and Quick Flex Bar are the most popular accessories to attach to your Tumbl Trak.  But, how do you decide which one is best for your gym?  The Frame Bar can be attached to any of the Tumbl Trak brand Tumbl Traks, while the Quick Flex Bar can not be attached to the In-ground Tumbl Trak or Porta Trak.  Watch our product videos and read further descriptions below for more details on each of these essential Tumbl Trak accessories.

The Frame Bar can be mounted to the Tumbl Trak, Inground Tumbl Trak, Xtreme Tumbl Trak, Recreation Tumbl Trak and the Porta Trak. It allows gymnasts to practice a variety of bar skills including handstand skills, uprises and several release moves. The Frame Bar easily attaches and detaches with steel knobs (no hardware required).

The Quick Flex Bar is designed to attach only to the Tumbl Trak, Xtreme Tumbl Trak and Recreation Tumbl Trak, and is a great alternative to the Frame Bar.  Its foam covered strap is soft and friendly for improper landings. The bracket has been completely re-designed for tightened attachment to the Tumbl Trak.

The Quick Flex Bar allows for lots of repetitions while learning to hit a handstand with proper technique. Develop a stronger cast handstand, proper back uprise handstand, and a technically sound front giant by bouncing off the stomach.  Bouncing from the back allows the gymnast to train back giants and release skills such as Tkatchevs.  Gymnasts will often hit their heels on the bar when learning a Tkatchev, so the softness of the Quick Flex Bar enables gymnasts to practice this and other release skills without the fear of the pain normally associated with hitting the bar.

We’ve been selling these Gymnastics Straps for many years, but I didn’t realize they weren’t listed for sale on our web site.  (Credit goes to GymnasticsCoaching.com for blogging about Coach Nick Blanton’s video, which is what brought it to my attention.)  Coach Nick does a great job in the video below showing exactly how you can use these straps in numerous ways around the gym.

Gymnastics Straps are used for a variety of training purposes around the gym.  Traditionally used to teach giant swings for girls and guys on uneven bars and high bar, they can also be used to teach swings on rings, assist in strength training and reinforce proper technique during tumbling.

Personally, I grew up learning giants in straps (forward, backward and inverts), as well as tap swings for dismounts, kovacs, and Gaylord II’s.  They were vital in allowing me to get numerous repetitions of the proper tap swing on the bar without wearing out my hands.

Watch the following video from Coach Nick for more great gymnastics training ideas using these straps.

In this gymnastics equipment video from American Gymnast, we show you how to set up your AAI Elite Uneven Bars from start to finish.

These Women’s Uneven Bars consist of:

•    2 base plates
•    2 short uprights
•    2 long uprights
•    2 connecting links or spreaders
•    4 cables with cable tighteners
•    4 turnbuckles
•    4 swivel anchors

Beginning with the base, slide the uprights onto the base plate.  Take the 1/2″ (13 mm) bolt and secure the base to the upright. Repeat on both sides of the upright. Remove the screw on the upright and slide the connecting link or spreader up and return the screw.  This prevents the spreader from sliding down the entire upright.

Attach the cables to the chain link from the long upright to the short upright.  The cables go from outer link to inner link, making sure the cable tighteners are facing up.  Then do the same thing from the short upright to the long upright.  Repeat this whole process with the other base and upright.

Now slide the graphite X-bar into the low bar and then the high bar.  Make sure that the black part of the bolt is facing into the bars for both the low bar and the high bar.

Attach the turnbuckles to the cables.  Attach the swivel anchor to the cables as shown.  Secure the swivel anchor into the floor plate as shown.  Repeat for the other 3 swivel anchors.

Measure the distance between the swivel anchor and the base to make sure they are equal.

Tighten the turnbuckles and set your bars to your preferred setting.
