Martial Arts The Premier Martial Arts program teaches a modified style of Kenpo Karate called Nick Cerio's Kenpo. Premier currently offers two classes: beginner class and intermediate/advanced class. These classes meet once a week for an hour each. In both classes, students will learn the importance of being a good citizen through the Five Principles of Conduct: effort, etiquette, sincerity, character, and self-control. They will engage in physical activity that will help them keep in shape. Finally, and most importantly, students will be able to have fun in a safe environment. ATTIRE: A uniform (gi) is mandatory for each class. Students must wear the gi top and pants (which can be purchased in the Premier Pro Shop) along with their belt and appropriate t-shirt underneath. During the summer time, the gi top may be taken off. Hair must be pulled back and away from the face. Beginner, ages 5-14 - (1 hour class) Students will begin to learn the basic foundations of martial arts. Punches, kicks and blocks will be put together into combinations, self-defense techniques and forms (kata). They will learn the importance of respect, self-control, and self-discipline so they become good martial artists. Intermediate/Advanced - Coed, ages 5-14 - (1 hour class) (instructor permission required to enroll) Students will continue their study of the martial arts through advanced techniques, forms (kata) and combinations. the overall form of their kicks, punches, and blocks will be critiqued and improved. Students will also begin light contact sparring as well as break-falling techniques, both under cautious supervision by their instructor. Finally, students will gain a better understanding of how Kenpo works through history and tradition. Students will be notified as to when they can be tested for their next belt rank. These testings will be held on Saturdays and last about 2 hours. All testing fees are included in your monthly tuition. NEW Starting January 2009 - Demo Team Class 5+ - (1.5 hour class) (Students must be enrolled in Beginner or Intermediate/advanced core class and have at least one month of experience of core class) This class focuses on the entertainment and performance aspects of martial arts. Students will learn how to do "flashy" martial arts moves as well as tumbling and flips. These moves will then be set to music where students will have the opportunity to perform demo kata and short self-defense skits. NEW Starting January 2009 - Tournament Preparation Class 5+ - (1.5 hour class) (Students must be enrolled in Beginner or Intermediate/advanced core class and have at least one month of experience of core class) This class focuses on the competition aspect of martial arts.
